For years, natural stone has ruled supreme. And we love a classic marble, granite or quartz countertop. But there’s a new kid on the block: polished concrete. In today’s blog, we learn more about this material… and why it’s making a designer comeback in 2019.
What is polished concrete?
Polished concrete is exactly what it sounds like: concrete floors or slabs that are ground down and polished to a high shine. Polished concrete is exceptionally hard, smooth, and glossy.
You can get polished concrete dyed in almost any color. It can also be decorated with scoring and line patterns. For example, you could score a polished concrete floor so that it looks like tiles… or cut a custom design into the slabs.
Polished concrete in 2019
We’ve talked a lot about sustainable trends in 2019. Even though polished concrete has an “industrial” reputation, it’s actually a very environmentally-friendly material! Polished concrete flooring is efficient and doesn’t use up scarce natural resources.
But it’s about more than the environment. Polished concrete is also a big trend for 2019 because… it looks great. It’s sleek, strong, and minimalist, with a slightly retro feel. It’s the perfect choice for a power office suite or modern, design-conscious home.
