In one of our recent blog posts, we talked about the benefits of choosing quartz for your kitchen and bathroom countertops. Today, we’re taking a look at another popular stone with a long history: marble.
What is marble?
Marble is a hard, metamorphic rock. It’s created in the earth when limestone is put under tremendous pressure and high temperatures. That’s why marble is so hard and glossy, even in its raw, unworked form.
Pure marble is completely white, with no patterns or marks at all. However, it’s very common for the rock to contain tiny amounts of other minerals. When the original limestone is transformed into marble, those other minerals form “veins” in rich colors.
While pure marble is perfect for statues, many people prefer marble with beautiful natural patterns for their bathroom or kitchen countertops. And of course, each block of marble is unique. You will never find another countertop which looks exactly like yours.
Why should you get a marble countertop?
Marble isn’t just hard. It can also resist high temperatures. It won’t crack, warp, or turn yellow if it’s exposed to heat.
However, because marble is formed out of limestone, it is still porous. If you want to install a marble countertop in your kitchen or bathroom, make sure that it is sealed by a professional so that you don’t have to worry about stains or marks.
Marble can be an expensive material, especially if you choose high-quality materials like the famous Italian marble. However, if you want a statement piece for your home, and you are prepared to care for it properly, then marble is an elegant and classic choice of stone.
